RESEARCH
I am a cultural and political sociologist whose work investigates how race, nationalism, and digital technologies intersect to shape contemporary far-right movements. My research agenda is organized around three core themes:
-
Far-Right Movements & Digital Mobilization
I examine how extremist groups adapt their strategies—from platform migration to coded messaging—as they navigate political mainstreaming and state repression. My current dissertation project compares U.S. and German far-right organizations’ digital tactics, revealing how algorithmic platforms allow for new forms of radicalization while legal regimes constrain or enable them. -
Transnational Racial Logics
Through comparative analysis (U.S., Germany, Russia), I trace how racial ideologies are formed and weaponized across contexts. My work on Russian Racial Logic (2020) demonstrated how nationalism disguises racism in post-Soviet spaces, while my German-focused studies explore how "völkisch" nostalgia and immigration discourse sustain white supremacy under democratic governance. -
Critical Methods for Studying Extremism
I develop trauma-informed qualitative approaches—including multilingual content analysis, interviews, and archival research—to study violent ideologies without amplifying harm. My methods prioritize ethical rigor, whether analyzing Telegram channels or interviewing former extremists, while centering the safety of researchers and marginalized communities.
